The Village Western Grill : Better than Average

It was by chance that i came across this western food stall located in a coffee shop near home. I just wanted a simple dinner so i ordered Fried Rice with Chicken Cutlet ($5.50) and Spicy Chicken ($6.90) from their extensive menu. The Spicy Chicken is in the form of grilled chicken and serve with 3 different sides of my choice : mashed potato, coleslaw and cheese pasta.

The Fried Chicken with Chicken Cutlet came first. Though it tasty crispy but was a bit too bland to my liking.

The fried rice was unexpectedly tasty though it was simply fried with just bits of ham and egg but it tasted amongst the better ones that i ever eaten from a western food stall. The portion was good too, for a hungry stomach.

The Spicy Chicken was of a good portion too, it was nicely pan seared to give it a slight smoky flavor then with bits of chilli flakes sprinkled to give it a mild spiciness.

The coleslaw was a good choice. The finely shredded cabbage and carrot nicely mixed with mayonnaise and served chilled to give it a refreshing feel.

The mashed potato was of the right texture but the gravy was not as tasty as i liked it to be.

The cheese pasta was the best amongst the 3 sides. A nice different from the usual mashed potato and coleslaw that is not usually available at most western food stalls. The pasta was cooked just right and served it with a nice cheese sauce.
