Indulge : not bad, not good

This Western food stall has been in this coffee shop since January replacing the Aston Express. Their menu includes the usual Western dishes together with fusion rice and soba bowls. I decided to have the Chicken Chop Burger ($8.00). The order taker recommended that I should add an egg for $1.00. He said, "Very Nice." He also asked, "What sauce do you choose? BBQ, Teriyaki, Mushroom?" I decided to go with the BBQ sauce. My dining companion wanted Chicken Cutlet ($6.50) with salted egg sauce, the other choice is nachos cheese. Each dish is accompanied with 2 choices of side dishes from the selection of fries, coleslaw, and salad. We decided to go with the fries and coleslaw as I was told that are the default choices. We were given a buzzer for collection after payment at the kitchen window.

The Chicken Cutlet that was served with salted egg sauce is quite a disappointment.  The salted egg sauce was quite diluted with little to none salted egg flavor. The chicken cutlet was not too big in size and it was rather bland. My dining companion, said, "It is not bad but not good either, just mediocre. The fries were just normal but the tiny scoop of coleslaw was nice."

My Chicken Chop Burger did not fare too well, too. I could only taste the BBQ sauce as the chicken chop did not have much flavor with a soggy skin, serving on a piece of lettuce and a slice of tomato.  The fully cooked fried egg did not actually enhance the flavor nor the texture of the burger.

My dining companion said, "Maybe We should have ordered the rice or soba bowls, it might taste better." While walking out of the coffee shop, we spotted a few bowls of unfinished rice and soba noodles left on the table. He said, "Luckily, we did not order those."

GRUB at Ang Mo Kio-Bishan Park : A Quiet Birthday Lunch

I went on my birthday to have lunch by myself. I have always been wanting to dine there since their opening in May 2013. The cafe is located in the midst of the park and not too far from Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1. When i was walking towards the door, a service staff spotted me and she opened the door and held it for me then i was ushered to be seated, menu was presented right after.  There were only another 2 occupied tables at that time, it was an ideal place for a quiet birthday lunch.

Another service staff came over with a glass of iced water while i was still looking at the menu and deciding what to eat.

I decided to go with the crispy Fish Burger for $14.00 and added $2 for Iced Honey Lime Juice drink then changed the fries to Mentaiko Fries for $3.

The Iced Honey Lime Juice was served right after, it is basically a glass of honey water with slices of lime added to infusing flavor.

Crispy Fish Burger is one of their signature dishes that are really popular. It consists of a big piece of nicely fried breaded fish fillet, it was crispy on the surface and still moist within. The fluffy and soft burger buns are sourced from a local bakery.

It was served with chilli sauce, tartar sauce and mentaiko aioli, the same one that is served with their mentaiko fries.

This was my first time eating mentaiko fries. The thick cut fries were served with the mentaiko aioli garnished with a few shredded nori seaweed. I have never like those truffle scented fries but the mentaiko fries are simply addictive, the combination was unexpectedly delighful which i really enjoyed.

Burger VS Wings + Bar - 2nd Visit

I went back for the hot wings this time using the vouchers acquired from deal.com.sg. I called before to make a reservation. I was there slightly earlier and the waiter verified our reservation then quickly ushered us to a small table for 2 pax. Most of the tables have got a reservation sign placed on it.

I tried the hot wings at mild level of spiciness the first time so i decided to go with it at medium level this round.

It was served in less than 10 minutes to our table. The wings were a little soggy and greasy after i done taking the pictures.  The level of spiciness at medium was slightly overwhelmed. It might not be so right on the spot but the aftertaste could not be underestimated.

The flow-flow of tapas buffet was still as disappointing. The spread was quite limited and they took a little longer time to restock it. The first visit was quite alright though not fantastic but this time was bad.

They might be trying to recover the loss in offering the offer thus by offering a sub-standard alternative.

This is likely to be the last time as there is no excitement to look forward to visit any sooner.

Burger Vs Wings. Who is the winner?

Signature Hot Buffalo Wings ($15.90) tasted just right at the level of mild spiciness. The Signature Tyson Peanut Butter ($21.90) has too much peanut butter in it that tend to be overwhelmed. A pretty average burger i'd say and not quite worth coming back.

Their free flow of tepas at an additional cost of $4.90 during lunch is not too fascinating. The items served were rather limited and the rate of replenishing was a little too slow on that day. And so, who is the winner when burger vs wings. I will think it is a draw as both tasted just passable and not distinctly outstanding.

And, it's slightly pricey if not using the vouchers acquired online for a 50% difference in the pricing.

Happy 1st Anniversary, The Burger Bar

It was definitely exciting to be there joining the crowd to enjoy the great offer of $1 burger in conjunction of their celebration of the first anniversary. I expected to see a long queue but was rather surprised to see just a couple of people there.

It took just a bit to order our burgers using their ordering system. First is to select the $1 Hamburger listed in the system then the ingredients to go with it. It clearly stated the free and the chargeable ingredients for selection.

The first burger consists of beef patty, shredded lettuce with slices of tomato and pickles in sesame seed bun with mayonnaise added.

I did not quite expect it but it tasted pretty nice. I'd think much nicer as compared to the other ones i had at their Pasir Panjang outlet. The lightly seasoned patty was firmed, juicy and done just right to give it the desired texture.

The second burger consists of grilled chicken with shredded lettuce, pickles and tomato in Honey Oat Bun.

It was pretty much another surprise. I don't usually like grilled chicken burger as most are pretty much tasteless. This one was an impressive one. The texture has got a likeable juiciness and rather flavorsome, too. The extra softness of the Honey Oat Bun complemented it perfectly.

We enjoyed the burgers pretty much.
