名厨车老板 : Beef Brisket Noodle, must-try

This Hong Kong eatery is located at Casuarina, along Sembawang Road. The boss is originated from Hong Kong and he is always ready to greet his customers, chatting with them in his strong Cantonese accent Chinese. It is like the usual Cha Chaan Teng in Hong Kong as they serve mostly the Cantonese fare. A lady came over to take our orders upon seated. Their Beef Brisket Noodle ($5) is a must-try which I ordered together with their Wanton Noodle ($4.50), Carrot Cake ($4) and Chee Cheong Fun ($4).

The Beef Brisket Noodle consists of a good portion of nicely cooked thin noodles with a few chunks of braised beef brisket with just a piece of tendon. The beef was quite lean but rather soft and flavorful. This is still one of the best Beef Brisket Noodle that I have tasted in Singapore. The soup that came along has got a distinct dried shrimp flavor like those that I tasted in Hong Kong.

I have recently tasted a really good Beef Brisket Noodle from Lao Jie Fang Braised Beef Noodles at Mei Chin Food Centre. I also got to try the same dish from One Mouth Noodle at Yishun Park Hawker Centre which I did not quite like it.

The Wanton Noodle was good though not amongst the best that I had tried. It was served with a few slices of char siew and 3 pieces of wanton. The char siew was slightly tough but the wanton was good, the tasty filling was in a thin layer of wrapper. My dining companion said, "I would come back for just the wanton."

My dining companion did not like the carrot cake though. He said, "I could taste a bit of OX sauce in it but the texture was too mushy,  it will be nicer if it is firmer."

The Chee Cheong Fun was unexpectedly good. It was steamed then pan-fried before serving it in a pool of sauce, garnished with sesame seeds and chopped spring onion. There are 3 types of fillings for selection, the char siew, the prawn and also the filling. We ordered the char siew and we enjoyed it.

Master Tang : Possibly the Best Beef Brisket Noodle in Singapore

The elderly Mr Tang Siu Nam, 84, is back in action. He used to run a hawker stall in Chinatown Complex Food Centre but closed it down, he then rested for 10 months before resurfaced in this coffee shop at Sixth Avenue in Bukit Timah for a few months now. Mr Tang is running this stall assisted by his wife. He is likely to be the oldest hawker in Singapore. He used to be the Head Chef of Crystal Jade Kitchens, he created their signature Cantonese style wanton mee that is served with a unique sambal chilli paste then.

I was there during lunch on a rainy afternoon and there was only a short queue right in front of the stall. The menu is quite simple which includes Beef Brisket Noodle / Rice ($6), Cantonese Style Noodle with Shredded Meat ($4), Pork Knuckle Noodle / Rice ($5), Wanton Mee Dry / Soup ($3.50), Wanton Soup ($3.50) and Dumpling Soup ($4). I decided to go with Cantonese Style Noodle with Shredded Meat, Beef Brisket Noodle and Wanton Soup.

The Cantonese Style Noodle with Shredded Meat was good. The texture of the noodles is indeed different, it has its desired chewiness and springiness though with a slight alkaline taste but it was cooked just right. The braised shredded meat was nicely done and its sauce added flavor to the noodles and is also served along with some greens. The secret ingredient to the deliciousness is none other than the special sambal chilli that he created which added the comfort factor to the dish and it blended perfectly.

Beef Brisket Noodle was amazingly good, the perfectly braised beef brisket has its delightful tenderness and it was served along with 2 pieces of radish. Its flavorful braised sauce went well with the noodles. This has to be one of the best beef brisket that i have tasted in Singapore, it is almost as good as those that i had in Hong Kong.

Wanton Soup came along with 6 pieces of plump wantons in it. Those wantons have a tasty filling that consists of a mixture of pork and shrimp, served with some greens in light flavored soup.

LeNu Taiwan Beef Noodle Bar 樂牛 by Paradise Group

I have always been looking forward to having an authentic bowl of Taiwanese style Beef Noodle as good as those i used to eat in Taiwan.

I have tried many and disappointed as many times too. I was lucky to be selected amongst the food tasters from the facebook of Paradise Group Holdings to be invited for a food tasting session. After submitted the personal particulars, we were given the flexibility to drop by any time within a given period. I was there during lunch though there were quite a few tables occupied but it was not as crowded as expected.

A particular waiting staff was rather friendly. She explained on what to order though she did not tell us that we were required to order it at the counter. That gotten us to wait for quite a while before i decided to walk to the counter and check it out. I presented my NRIC for them to do a quick verification then followed by presenting the already filled up order chit.

I was not told that i have to collect the side dishes from the station so i waited again, i did not get it even after the 2 bowls of beef noodles were served. I got to walk to the counter and asked again then picked it up from the station just right next to it.

Our choices of side dishes were Century Egg served with Chilled Tofu and Preserved Cucumber. Both tasted quite good.

We selected Braised Fresh Beef Noodle ($8.90) and Braised Beef Brisket Noodle ($10.90). There are a total of 3 types of noodles: Thin Noodles, Broad Noodles and Rice Noodles for selection. We opted the broad noodles for both spicy and non-spicy version. The spicy version did not taste as spicy as expected, it might have adjusted to better suit the taste bud of locals as its spiciness is actually quite mild.

We were asked to fill up a set of questionnaire at the end of the session.

It was generally a good experience as we enjoyed the authentic tasting Taiwanese beef noodle. A special thanks to Paradise Group Holdings for the invitation.

Mr Wong Seremban Beef Noodles at Marine Parade Food Centre

I was told this is a MUST TRY Beef Noodle if i happen to be in this food cetnre. I was there just before lunch so no queue is spotted. I wanted the smallest portion of beef noodle for just $3.50. The lady manning the stall was all by herself to take order, to cook then served it, and collected the payment. It happened so quick.

Never really a fan of Beef Noodle and so i did not have much expectation.

The taste was generally alright. The thick noodle was cooked to the right texture then served with the thick braised sauce. It then topped with the poached sliced beef and the salted vegetable, roasted peanuts and chopped spring onion to serve. Bits of sesame seeds were sprinkled to add flavor.

After a good mix, every strand of thick noodle was nicely coated with the braised sauce and ready to eat.

It was nice though not exceptionally outstanding. I might just eat it again if i happen to be here and there is no queue.
